about

From the album Le Cape Noir (hac262)

Sydney cosmic rock 'n' rollers The Ramalamas release the irresistible French pop-flavoured single 'Funtastique', ahead of its launch at The Great Club on June 2nd.

Late last year The Ramalamas released their fifth studio album Le Cape Noir (The Black Cape) on the iconic label Half A Cow. It's an opus that found them delivering the Motion Picture Soundtrack to an imaginary long lost 1968 cult psycho-thrilller/horror/drama classic.

Re-imagining a celluloid gem from the likes of Mario Bava being exhumed from the vault, The Ramalamas have created the perfect soundtrack to keep you on the edge of your seats, screaming for more. Think The Abominable Dr. Phibes backed by a sizzling soundtrack from your favourite band.

The new single 'Funtastique', the opening track to the album, is an infectious shimmer and shake of a song where French pop collides gloriously with garage rock guitars from the Nuggets compilation. Picture it in a swinging night club scene reminiscent of Valmont’s go-go pad in Mario Bava’s masterpiece, Danger Diabolik.

As singer/guitarist Chris Nielsen explains, "Lyrically it’s a deep dive into a psychedelic champagne/absinthe cocktail "Death in the Afternoon" invented by Ernest Hemingway whilst whiling away the hours on the Left Bank. Ennui, ennui, ennui, everything is going to be…Funtastique!"

Interspersed with crackling dialogue and instrumental segues, the rest of the album serves up all of the crunching rock, and glistening roll you expect from The Ramalamas, rich with the twang of the surf, desert and swamplands and set to accompany a terrifying night at the drive-in.

From the haunted Creedence meets The Cramps blues of 'Ain't No Grave' to the cosmic wail of 'Phantom Hayride', sit back and listen as the cast of Le Cape Noir conjures up 'Espiritismo' and fights against the 'Night Tide'...
